Easy Front Door Updates for Big Impact

I’m all for a big pop of colour on the front door. I love it in general but in the house we’re living in now, coordinating a colour to the brick we have was a bit of a challenge! I…

Our ensuite bathroom desperately needed a refresh Our ensuite bathroom desperately needed a refresh (swipe to see the BEFORE photo) but it wasn’t in our original reno budget to do much with it. When we moved in it was in worse shape than we thought so I did as much as we could on a small budget and one day we will redo the whole thing!
.
Welcome to my own little “No Demo Reno”. I used the same patterned ceramic tile we used in our front hall and had the same person install both at the same time which saved us $$. This vanity is one of the least expensive I could find and I swapped out the nickel hardware it came with for with matte black. I also added the matte black faucet and light fixture and it’s fine for now! We are in much better shape that that before picture 😉

It’s a dog’s life around here as we get back i It’s a dog’s life around here as we get back into the swing of things! I’ve finally gotten around to sharing some of my lessons learned from our full home reno on the blog today! I’m not sure why this took me so long but I think I have some PTSD when it comes to recollecting the experience. If you’re thinking of renovating yourself, I share all we decided to update, the impact to our budget and a few of the unexpected things that happened along the way! There’s also some great BEFORE & AFTER photos so I hope you’ll check it out at www.agingeredlife.com! 👩🏻‍🦰😘

Who doesn’t love a good Before & After?! If you’ve been following our renovation journey you’ll know we pulled a switcheroo with the kitchen into the dining area. Sharing the ‘After’ of our finished dining room and while I still have some work to do on shelf styling and painting the bannister I am so happy with how it turned out! Adding cabinetry to this side of the room was a great call as it is all very open concept. This allowed storage for a full pantry, broom closet, linens, serving dishes and all the things, as well as a buffet space for serving! What do you think?! Counting down til we can have friends over to enjoy it!

When we finally finished our kitchen I did not env When we finally finished our kitchen I did not envision our island becoming a desk again but here we are! While I count ourselves very lucky to work from home and be able to manage this closure (again) my heart goes out to parents who are really struggling with what their options are during these times. It’s hard on so many families.
.
In the same breath I will say that we need to do what’s safe. When we sent our kids to school in Sept, numbers were down and things were looking up. Sadly that is not our current situation and while the mismanagement of this wave (the entire pandemic really) has happened, as parents we need to be mindful of how we are framing this situation for our kids. If they hear us complain and utter constant negative rhetoric about this time, it will affect the way they learn and their ability to feel safe and supported. Not all will agree with me and that is okay, but some of the words I’ve seen online from parents of school aged children is so upsetting.
.
I hear people say all the time to stop watching the news. The problem with that is that things are changing so rapidly right now that we need to stay informed. Hospitalizations are on the rise and so are paediatric hospitalizations! We want to believe this is mild and our children are mostly unaffected but the truth is that is not the case for everyone and until it affects you directly, I’m not sure everyone is seeing clearly right now.
.
In any case, I hope everyone’s transition back to virtual learning is going as well as it can. We are all doing this but I’m very aware that our situations are very different. This pandemic has changed the course of our family’s entire lives so I am no stranger to how impactful it’s been.

2019 was a rough go for us. We lost Marc’s Dad 2019 was a rough go for us. We lost Marc’s Dad in January, Marc transitioned out of his executive job in March and started a job search which felt uncomfortable for us. In June we lost his oldest brother unexpectedly, in July we lost my grandmother. In September Marc started a new job in a President’s role which was a huge goal of his. I started a new job in January of 2020. Things felt hopeful. We were back on track and would make 2020 a much better year than the last.
.
In March 2020 the pandemic hit and we all know how that’s gone. Marc lost that job he was doing so well in because the industry was completely halted. He started his own business, a silver lining looking back as he is doing something now that he is so incredibly passionate about and good at. At the time though, he did it out of necessity and providing for our family, keeping us afloat.
.
We made it work as best we could. Both of us working at home with the kids home for a good chunk of the school year, navigating Google classroom and our kids’ academic requirements in between taking our own conference calls. So many parents know what this was like. Then no summer camps, no extra childcare, no breather.
.
Entrepreneur life is scary and takes away the financial consistency that we were used to. It is a rollercoaster of emotions. By the Spring of 2021 after another lockdown we decided to make a big move, literally, and we listed our house in Guelph and moved north to be closer to my parents, the water and acquire some more space. Our closing dates didn’t align so we stored all our belongings for the summer. We opted to buy a house that needed some work because of the amazing lot and pool and embarked on a major renovation. In hind sight we bit off a bit more than we could chew and more than we could really handle mentally.
.
Pandemic ongoing, our kids starting a new school, house upside down. It was A LOT!
