Easy Front Door Updates for Big Impact
I’m all for a big pop of colour on the front door. I love it in general but in the house we’re living in now, coordinating a colour to the brick we have was a bit of a challenge! I tried out a few samples on the door in darker rusts and terra cotta colours (you can buy small sample containers at the paint store and they are so handy!) and a few different browns and greens. Nothing really looked right in any other family but green to be honest. We have dark eavestroughs and soffit and taupe window trim and front pillars so doing anything too drastic would have looked off I thought! I ended up going with the colour Windham Gate, that’s a dark olive green.
BUT, the real piece de resistance is the door hardware! We’ve only lived in this house 5 years but we had the regular brushed nickel front door hardware – both round knobs and nothing fancy. I debated for a long time because front door hardware is dang expensive (!) but Amazon came through and I ordered this set. It’s at least half the price of anything else I could find and was easy to install myself!
I think it makes a huge difference to the exterior of the house! I also updated our coach lights (we also used to just have the ones the builder installed) but these were from Costco, extremely inexpensive and again, I installed myself. These accents along with painting the chairs black on our porch helped make everything look crisp and put together!
Another easy update I tackled was on the interior side of the doors! Again, normally your interior doors would be white, and of course it looks fine, but I saw this colour on another IG post and it looked so nice! Have you ever thought of painting your interior doors? So, naturally, I went out and bought the paint and went at it here and I just love how it turned out!
This was before I updated the door hardware so now those handles are the ones you actually pull down with your hand. I think they look a little nicer 😉 This colour is called Quietude by Sherwin Williams and I just love it. I feel happier and more content every time I walk towards the front of the house because I feel like it adds such nice character and warmth to the space!
All of that to say that if you want small changes that make big impact, updating your front doors could be the ticket! If you’re considering repainting your exterior doors though, get them done before it gets too cold up here! Hope this inspires you try something new or look for tiny updates that make a big difference! All this was only a few hundred dollars and I’m super happy with the results!
